Started in 1889 in the French alps Mavic has over 100 years of experience in making rims and wheels that stand the test of time and deliver a product second to none. When you see the yellow logo you know you are getting a quality product. Mavic has been making mountain bike wheels almost from the beginning of the mountain bike movement, they know what mountain bikers do to their wheels and they build them to suit.
The biggest technology story has to do with the tubular carbon spokes. According to Mavic, they, essentially, will not stretch, compress or bend. An aluminum head is bonded onto one end of the spoke, a threaded aluminum nipple bonded to the other. After the spokes are laced through the hub, an alloy ring is pressed into the hub. This ring locks the spokes in place so they cannot move vertically into the hub shell under load. On the other end, since the nipple is part of the spoke and treaded directly into the rim, there is no way the spoke can compress into the rim under load. Both the rims and hubs are made of an aluminum alloy.
